When Academic Integrity is Lacking
I am so glad that you have decided to spend some time with me on my blog because I have created a new series just for you. This series focuses on the issues, challenges, and common experiences that you might face as you teach college students online. These things probably aren’t discussed in most of the professional development training you may attend. I would say that they are testaments of going “through the fire” that you must experience for yourself; however, as one who is committed to your success as a master facilitator online, I am obligated to prepare you for what is sure to lie ahead.
In this first episode, I take you about eight years back when a male student of mine attempted to cheat his way through a course and was busted right when he thought he was in stride. I guess he did not realize that I had nine years under my belt at the time and those years had taught me so much about the academic integrity issues pervasive in online courses. But, he learned quickly and did not make it to the midterm.
This episode highlights how important your presence is in your online course. It includes a situation that occurred during a live session and how that session coupled with some “suspect” test-taking led to a nip in the bud.
Discover the details of what happened and the strategies you can put in place to address similar integrity issues while watching the video. Feel free to share a comment here or on my YT Channel about your thoughts.
Have you ever experienced something similar?
How would you have handled this situation?
Thanks, again, for spending this time with me.
