Empowering College Students Online

How do you give your students the power to take ownership of what they are learning? And, how do you support them in a rewarding way?

These two questions guided my development of this mini-workshop that I created just for you. There was so much that I wanted to share with you but I had to give you the most important nuggets since the workshop was meant to provide you with a wealth of information in a short amount of time.

Putting this information together took much longer than I expected but it was so much fun. So, here is what the workshop offers in a nutshell–

The Foundation

In this section, I share three adult learning theories: andragogy, transformative learning, and student-centered learning and explain why they should matter to you as an online instructor. I also delve into the importance of conducting a learner analysis and challenge you to collect data on your students so that you know WHO you are teaching.

Course Navigation

I share four ways that you might layout the pages of your course shell which is nothing but a website.

Supportive Tools and Resources

In this section, I share four types of tools and resources that you can add to your course as well as how you might ensure that your course is accessible to disabled students.

Instructor and Student Roles

In this section, I layout three major roles of online instructors with sub-roles included and I share what I perceive to be the three major roles of online students.

Instructor Access

I outline three ways to make yourself accessible to your students.

You see? That was a lot, right?

It was challenging to fit it in a little over 49 minutes, but I did it! Now, it is time for you to delve in and get to work.  My greatest joy is that you will walk away from the video with actionable steps that you can implement today. I am called to shorten your learning curve and I hope that is exactly what I did. 🙂 Enjoy and continue to create high-quality, dynamic learning communities online.
