Write with Me | Reflecting on Issues That Bother You

Hi, HEO!

I am thrilled that you are taking the time to read my blog.

Today’s post focuses on your concerns via the sixth prompt in The Professor’s Week in Review: A Journal for Weekly Reflections on the Higher Ed Experience. This prompt asks, “What bothered you this week? Let me say it again, “What bothered you this week? And, yes, I will unpack this concept just a little in the video below.

If you are postsecondary faculty of any rank or position, you may have noticed that there is a bit of turbulence and turmoil in higher education right now. If you subscribe to Inside Higher Ed or The Chronicle of Higher Education, you are certainly aware of the pervasive issues filling your inbox on a daily or weekly basis. But, since we are here and focusing on our issues and concerns, I’d like to highlight six of many right now.

  1. The Politicization of Higher Education
  2. Managing Chronic Stress and Emotions
  3. Contending with or Utilizing Artificial Intelligence
  4. Job Dissatisfaction
  5. Gender and sexuality
  6. Problematic Behaviors from a Highly Distracted and Apathetic Student Population

Please watch the video to learn what I have to share about these issues which may be of concern to you. Also, learn the three reasons why reflecting on what concerns you is beneficial.
